PHNOM PENH, April 24, 2024 — During a two-day state visit to Cambodia, the President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, met with Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary at the National Assembly Palace in Phnom Penh. The Lao leader requested that Cambodia share its legislative experiences to aid in the development of the Lao National Assembly's capabilities across various levels and skills.

In discussions aimed at bolstering legislative ties, President Sisoulith emphasized the importance of active cooperation between the two national assemblies to yield benefits for both nations. He reminisced about the enduring friendship and collaborative spirit between Cambodia and Laos, particularly their shared historical struggles for independence.

Khuon Sudary extended a warm welcome to President Sisoulith, highlighting the significance of his visit as a catalyst for strengthening the traditional friendship and solidarity between the two countries. She noted that this visit supports the elevation of bilateral relations to a "long-term and comprehensive strategic partnership," promising mutual advantages.

The Cambodian assembly president also praised Laos for successfully hosting the CLV (Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam) Summit and expressed optimism for Laos' upcoming roles as the host of both the ASEAN Summit and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) later this year.

Reflecting on the recent official visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to Laos, Sudary lauded the signing of seven bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding, which cover crucial areas such as energy, trade, education, tourism, security, defense, and joint efforts in combating cross-border drug and human trafficking.
